Become a Companion
Interested in joining a impact organization as an independent volunteer board member?
Bring your business experience to the social-profit sector. We match you with an impact organization based on your strengths and its needs.
Becoming a Companion is a two-step journey:
-
first you join BoardCompanions as a member,
-
then — once active — you can register for a speeddate to be matched with an organization.
We look for candidates who:
-
have solid management experience;
-
have board experience, or are committed to completing a board training program within the next year

How to become a Companion
This is the first step of your application. In the online form we ask some basic information about you, your experience, what type of organization would be a good fit and with what challenges you can help an organization.
After submitting the online form, we will contact you and ask you to complete some additional information (CV, sign the code of conduct...).
Our membership committee meets you to check the fit, discuss your directorship preferences, and explain the process.
Once accepted, you're an active Companion — free to register for a speeddate whenever you're ready.

Upcoming Speeddates

June 2027
November 2027
Fill in the speeddate form with your preferences (organization type, challenges you can help with).
3/ Preparatory meeting
A short online session with other candidates to prepare for the speeddate.
We aim to match you with 2-3 organizations based on your preferences and their needs, then we confirm your participation.
4/ Speeddate
Meet 2-3 organizations online and see where there's a fit — on both sides, it's then up to you to decide whether to continue.
5/ After the speeddate
We'll ask you to complete a short questionnaire so we can get a clear picture of your experience.
If, after the speeddate, you'd like to get to know one of the organizations you met a bit better, stay in touch with the people you spoke with.
We recommend attending a few board meetings as an observer before deciding whether to join.
Let us know how things evolve — our mission to strengthen impact through governance in the social-profit sector happens through you.
